Visualization of cloud-resolving atmospheric simulation data
Speakers:
,
Abstract:

ICON, the ICOsahedral Non-hydrostaic model that is jointly developed by the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the German Weather Service (DWD), was recently extended to permit large eddy simulations at cloud resolving scales as part of the HD(CP)² project.   It aims to foster the knowledges and understanding of clouds through direct simulation. The data generated by this project easily exceeds the capabilities of current single node visualization systems, therefore new strategies are required to visualize and understand the data. This presentation discusses ICON and HD(CP)² data from a scientific and a technical perspective, and showcases some of our findings using a live demonstration with the NVIDIA IndeX visualization framework.
